Ligament injury:

Can result from a trauma or non-contact twisting injury related to the knee. Commonly involved hearing a loud popping sound with immediate pain, swelling, and instability. There are 4 major ligaments to the knee with the most common ligament injured being the MCL (medial collateral ligament) on the inside part of the knee. Other injuries can occur such as an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament)tear in our sports athletes that can lead to significant instability.

Meniscus tear:

A meniscus tear is a very common knee injury usually resulting from twisting or rotating of the knee joint. It can present with immediate pain and swelling along with difficulty bearing weight or bending the knee joint.

Osteoarthritis:

This is the most common injury seen in most orthopedic offices. It involves the wear and tear of the cartilage that lines your knee joint. It can present with deep aches and pain as well as stiffness and sometimes swelling.

Patellar tendinitis:

This is commonly seen in our younger athletes, specifically jumping sports including basketball and volleyball. Sometimes referred to as Osgood-Slaughter's or jumpers knee. It can present with pain on the front our your knee with running or jumping typically.

Baker's cyst:

Typically presents with swelling or a feeling of fullness in the back of the knee. Commonly associated with an injury to the knee itself or arthritis.
